It’s a shame that the ICANN rejected a proposal to create a specific domain for the vast WWW porn industry. There wouldn’t have been anything wrong with it, as others have stated.
By creating a separate “red light district”, this would have allowed parents to easily filter out content that children would have been exposed. The ICANN wouldn’t have put themselves into the regulatory role, anymore than they have with the creation of all the other domains - .mil, .gov, .org, or .edu. The creation of .xxx would have been in the best interests of children everywhere. The right to free speech would still have been in tact, it would have made it a little more difficult to access, by having adults enter the domain in their searches.
I hope that ICANN reconsiders their position in the future, and allow the streamlining of web content to domains that are more specific to their targeted audience. Creating WWW indexing through domains does not constitute content regulation.
